Wheat yields have proven surprisingly good for Edward Parsons at Templemans Farm, Redlynch, Wiltshire, despite initial quality concerns.

“We’ve cut 80ha of Solstice already, with bushel weights between 71kg/ha and 74kg/ha,” he said.

Mr Parsons had anticipated a 5t/ha yield and a poor quality crop, so was pleasantly surprised when yields came out at 7.5t/ha.

“While the straw is as green as the jungle, the ears are fit and I’m not as concerned about it as I was.”

Mr Parsons had also cut 72ha of rapeseed, with Dimension yielding 3.25t/ha and Cabernet 3.5t/ha.

Tipple spring barley also produced good results, with a yield of 6.9t/ha and a malting quality specification.
