Rape looks weathered in Fife
Andrew Peddie has not cut anything at Cornceres Farm, Anstruther, Fife, for the past week, and still has 4ha (10 acres) of oilseed rape to combine.
“The land is getting very soft and the rape is looking very weathered,” he said. The 16ha (40 acres) of Mendel cut so far was not spectacular, yielding around 3.7t/ha (1.5t/acre).
However, the Amarena winter barley cut a fortnight ago was excellent, yielding almost 9.9t/ha (4t/acre).
Mr Peddie’s Robigus winter wheat and Waggon spring barley were still about two weeks away from being fit.
“There’s not a desperate panic for those crops but we need the ground to dry up – even if the weather dries the ground will be too wet to travel on.”
