Record rapeseed at Park Farm

Roger Brian is thrilled with record oilseed rape yields at Park Farm, Hanbury, Worcestershire, where he hopes to finish cutting the crop today (3 August).

“We haven’t weighed it, but going on trailer loads I think it has done 4.9t/ha (2t/acre) at 8.8% moisture – maybe even a shade more. That’s the best we’ve ever had.”

The Osprey, grown for seed, was subsoiled in on 28 August and produced a lovely even crop, he said. “It’s all standing up and looks perfect.”

Mr Brian had also cut 16ha (40 acres) of Pearl winter barley, which had been stunted for most of the growing season. “It was not brilliant, at less than 4.9t/ha (2t/acre).”

After the oilseed rape he was moving into winter wheat. “It looks very good – it will do alright.”

Crop: Oilseed rape
Variety: Osprey
Area: 20ha (49 acres)
