“It seems to be coming off well,” he said. Cut at 20-22% moisture the Oakley averaged about 9.9t/ha (4t/acre). It had all been moved on an early contract at £150/t.

The Pearl winter barley was disappointing at 6.4t/ha (2.6t/acre) – the first and last time Mr Solari had grown for malting. “We’re going to go back to feed next year.”

He now had 24ha (60 acres) of spring barley, 40ha (100 acres) of oats and about 260ha (640 acres) of winter wheat to cut. “After 14 years we have a shiny new Claas Tucano which we’re very pleased with,” he said.

 Syngenta

Duxford winter wheat is an HGCA Recommended List 2008/09 variety with very high UK treated yields and the top score for resistance to lodging with PGR. Combined with an unbeaten second wheat yield and a balanced disease resistance profile, this new variety from Syngenta Seeds will help UK growers rise to the challenge of producing more grain profitably.
