Robert finishes harvest in Kent
Robert Shove finished harvest at Lillechurch Farm, Lower Higham, Kent, on Saturday (30 August) and was pleased with both yields and quality.
“We hardly harvested anything dry – some of it we’re still drying,” he said.
The Solstice milling wheat yielded over 10t/ha (4t/acre), with the Claire and Humber easily making 11t/ha (4.5t/acre), and Cordiale as a second wheat averaging 9.7t/ha (3.9t/acre).
“The proteins are just over the 13% mark – we have only had one claim so far,” said Mr Shove.
Hagbergs and bushelweights were all good too, he added.
He was now busy drilling rape before the next bout of rain arrived.
