Soft ground conditions are concerning James Grant-Suttie at Balgone Farms, North Berwick, East Lothian, but he hopes to be back into harvest tomorrow (August 23).
“We’ve had a lot of rain since the last dry spell and there is quite a lot of wheat which has gone flat,” he said. “But the Oxbridge spring barley looks very good and hopefully we’ll be into that tomorrow, and make a start on the Robigus and Riband wheat next week.”
During the last dry period Mr Grant-Suttie managed to harvest the 36ha (90 acres) of Excalibur oilseed rape at 7-8% moisture and a very pleasing 4.9t/ha (2t/acre). The 32ha (80 acres) of
