David Hues is waiting for straw and crops to dry at Galteemore Farm, Beckhampton, Wiltshire today.
After finishing 64ha (160 acres) of Cellar spring barley, he thought the yield would be about 6.25t/ha (2.5t/acre). It was cut at 15% moisture with nitrogen of 1.5-1.6% and was sold at £110-115/t.
Mr Hues had also completed 320ha (800 acres) of Alchemy winter wheat. Cut between 13-18% moisture first wheat yielded between 8.75-10t/ha (3.5-4t/acre) and second wheat did nearer 7.5t/ha (3t/acre).
Mr Hues had sold almost a third of his wheat, which had a specific weight of 76kg/hl for £80-110/t.
“I’m pleased with results”, he said.
He still has three to four days of wheat before moving into 8ha (20 acres) of Westminster spring barley.
