THE THIRD successive British sprout festival will take place this weekend (Oct 30 – 31) in Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire.

The event sees pubs, restaurants and tearooms competing to produce the most exciting sprout menus, with some of the sale proceeds being donated to Cancer Research UK.

All sprouts used will have been grown by local farmer Will Haines, who will also help distribute information about sprouts.

Sprouts contain at least two compounds with proven cancer protective benefits and are one of the healthiest vegetables types, according to the British Sprout Growers Association.

Poor weather and commitments at other shows meant the event was nearly cancelled this year, but strong public demand made it go ahead, explained the BSGA‘s Roger Welberry.

“Fingers crossed we have some good weather at last and plenty of visitors to secure the festival‘s future.”
