The fixed income from environmental schemes can prove especially valuable when grain prices are low, but farmers are being urged to make sure they fully understand what they are signing up to with the government’s new scheme. There are many considerations such as the additional requirements for record-keeping, hedgecutting restrictions on land not in the scheme and getting consents in place.
