Tim 80% through harvest in Hants

Harvest was about 80% complete at Tim Sykes’ Denmeade Farm, Waterlooville, Hants, and quality was holding up well.

“The quality has been fantastic so far – it’s surprising how there’s been no sprouting – it’s certainly holding on in there,” he said.

The Alchemy and Claire was averaging 10t/ha (4t/acre), and the remaining 70ha (175 acres) of Claire and Humber looked well.

Cocktail spring barley yielded above average at 6.9t/ha (2.8t/acre) and went for malting, and the oilseed rape averaged 4t/ha (1.65t/acre).

Mr Sykes had drilled 75% of his rape for next year, and just had the wheat and 18ha (45 acres) of linseed to finish combining.

 Syngenta

Duxford winter wheat is an HGCA Recommended List 2008/09 variety with very high UK treated yields and the top score for resistance to lodging with PGR. Combined with an unbeaten second wheat yield and a balanced disease resistance profile, this new variety from Syngenta Seeds will help UK growers rise to the challenge of producing more grain profitably.
