One man died and another has been left with serious injuries after a plane crash at a Norfolk Airfield involving a tractor driver out spraying.

The tractor driver, who has been named as Andrew Hill, escaped serious injury in the incident which took place at about 13.50pm on Wednesday (29 Oct) at Seething Airfield, south of Norwich, although he was later treated for shock.

Richard McGonagle, of Norfolk Fire Service, told the BBC that it appeared that the aircraft hit part of the crop-spraying tractor on its approach to the runway.

“The debris field suggests the aircraft collided with the crop-spraying tractor before it hit the ground,” he said.

He stressed that the tractor was not on the runway and there was no suggestion the tractor was not authorised to be where it was.

The Civil Aviation Authority’s Air Accident Investigation Branch is investigating the incident.
