Treatment boosts spud sprouting

THE FIRST year for commercial growing of Accumulator treated potato seed has proved a success, according to grower feedback.

Reports from across the country suggest Accumulator increased stem numbers by an average of 25%, Greenvale AP claimed.

Treated seed also showed a 15% yield increase compared to untreated seed of the same variety, the company said.

Accumulator is recommended for growers producing punnet or seed crops.

Its activity requires using modified atmospheres and temperatures at storage to alter the biochemical state in the eyes to produce more potential sprouts.

“Having now tried Accumulator treated seed we have seen an improvement in [tuber] numbers produced and look forward to consistent improvement year on year,” said Stuart Liddell of Suffolk based Wrentham Vegetables.
