WEED CONTROL OFF TO A FLYER
Positive start… Organic wheat weed control using an Einbock weed rake on Frederick Hiam Farms” 175ha organic Apes Hall Farm unit in Littleport, Cambs, is off to a flying start thanks to the recent dry weather, reports crop production manager Mark Bowyer. “Organic weed control is very hit or miss. But it is raking beautifully at the moment. The weeds are still small enough to pull out before they get established. Once they are, it becomes very difficult to get satisfactory control.”
Even so, he expects having to rake up to three times to achieve a level of weed control clean enough to allow efficient combining.
