“But I‘m nervous about how much we may have lost in these high winds.”


The swathed rape, now lying close to the ground, should be safe from too much damage, but the majority of his 120ha (300 acres) is still standing.


There is also 320ha (800 acres) of winter wheat to harvest – all group 1 and 2 varieties.


“We‘ve grown all quality wheats for a couple of years now, and intend to do the same next year.


“It doesn‘t look too bad, and yields should be on a par with an average year.”


But there is no barley to harvest for the first year – poor profitability is to blame for a switch out of the crop.
