Reader Steve Rowland has won the 2009 Harvest Highlights front cover competition.
Steve’s picture appears on the front cover of this week’s Farmers Weekly magazine.
The picture was taken at Boyton in Cornwall as he was cutting barley while working for contractor Phil Strout.
FW Picture editor Jodie Deakin picked the image because she felt it summed up the spirit of harvest.
“I really liked the contrast between the action in the field and the green, rolling hills behind,” she said.
There were two runners-up which came very close to clinching the prize too.
Anthea Kitching submitted this stunning long-distance shot of a Claas combine working in winter barley at Crathorne Farms, North Yorkshire.
Meanwhile, Nigel Davies of Bridgenorth, Shropshire sent in a beautifully composed picture of a trailer offloading barley.
Farmers Weekly would like to thank everybody who has sent pictures in to date.
Please keep them coming because we will endeavour to print a selection in forthcoming issues of Farmers Weekly magazine.
There are now more than 1200 pictures on the Harvest Highlights gallery.
