Winter barley doing well for Geoffrey Williams
Winter barley has performed well in Nottinghamshire, where seed merchant and farmer Geoffrey Williams has nearly finished cutting.
“Carat, Suzuka and Saffron have done better than for many years at 7.5t/ha (3t/acre) plus,” he said. Screenings and bushelweights were also good.
“Early oilseed rape was very moderate, but more recent crops have been better.” Castille and Excalibur had averaged about 4.6t/ha (1.9t/acre), said Mr Williams.
“We’re about a week away from wheat, which is looking promising.”
