Dan Hicks cut 12ha of Pearl winter barley yesterday (July 12) near Norwich, Norfolk. He said yields were reasonable and the crop came in at 13.2% moisture. Samples were being sent off for quality testing, with hopes of the crop meeting malting standards.

“We’re fairly pleased with the winter barley because it was on light, sandy land.”

He said the wheat was looking “reasonably well” at the moment, but was “praying for rain” with concern for low crop yields on light land due to the recent drought.

Mr Hicks planned to start harvesting Premier potatoes next week.
