Winter barley yields close to five-year average

HGCA has now published results for 14 of the Recommended List winter barley trials with figures, again confirming that this season’s average is close to the five-year mean of 8.8 t/ha, despite the cool wet conditions this spring.

The six-row hybrid varieties have performed well with Volume achieving the highest yield in 2012 and also over the last five years. Element, which is recommended for the North, has also performed well in that region.

KWS Cassia is the top yielding two-row feed so far this harvest at 104%, while two two-row feed candidates KWS Discovery and KWS Glacier are currently achieving 106% of the average yield.
