First export shipment for Countrywide Grain

Countrywide Grain has shipped its first export cargo, with 3,000t of feed barley going to southern Ireland from Poole, Dorset.

The company was formed in 2013 from Heart of England Grain and SM Hackett and Son, which were owned by co-op Countrywide Farmers. The grain arm remains part of the wider Countrywide Farmers group and is also sending oilseed rape to the German biodiesel market.

“We have had considerable local support, allowing us to keep haulage rates down and pass the benefit back to our customers,” said Countrywide grain manager Edd Britton.

“Over the next few months and with a good harvest we will be exporting more out of both Poole and Portbury.”

Countrywide Grain trades from offices in Preston Capes, Amesbury, Wiltshire, and Newport in Shropshire.
