Harvest is a week behind last year at Adrian Ivory’s Strathisla Farms, Meigle, Perthshire.

“We’ve cut nothing yet, whereas we started on 31 July last year,” he said.

Mr Ivory hoped to get a start at some point today (8 August) or tomorrow, depending on how wet the crop was.

He had 680ha of winter barley ready to cut, with spring barley still some way off.

“The conditions are poor and it’s pretty damp. Luckily one of our combines is on tracks which is a big life saver,” he said.

“Quality wise, you can never tell until the machine is in the field. I haven’t dared look so we’ll just wait and see.”
