Spraying rapeseed in Fife
Andrew Peddie is spraying off oilseed rape at Cornceres Farm, Anstruther, Fife, today (9 August), and doesn’t expect to start combining for a week to 10 days.
“We don’t have any winter barley, and have more spring crops than normal, so it will be a late start,” he said.
“I don’t think the rape will be a bumper crop, but it’s looking an awful lot better than we expected it to look at the end of April.”
Further north, James Porter had not started harvest either at West Scryne Farm, Carnoustie, Angus, but said many people had cut winter barley in the area.
“We haven’t got winter barley, so Waggon spring barley will be our first crop to cut later next week,” he said.
With no oilseed rape, Mr Porter only had spring barley and winter wheat to combine this year.
“Everything looks pretty decent, so I’m happy so far.”
