Ukraine plans big poultrymeat export push

The Ukraine is planning to double its exports of poultrymeat in 2013, as new markets open up.

The country exported 18,700t of poultrymeat and poultry by-products in the first two months of this year, reports World Poultry – three times more than the same period in 2012.

According to the State Customs Service, the value of these exports in January and February 2013 reached $32.4m. At the same time, imports of poultrymeat and poultry by-products decreased by 12% to 10,100t.

“In 2013, Ukrainian enterprises plan to double the sales of chicken abroad,” said chairman of the Union of Poultry Farmers of Ukraine Alexander Bakumenko at a recent press conference. “Last year we exported 81,000t and this year we will be able to export 140,000-160,000t,” he added.

The rise in exports will be made possible by increasing the production capacities of the market leaders, Myronivsky Hliboproduct (MHP) and Agromars, which have about 50% and 15% share of industrial production, respectively.

According to the report growth in exports will be facilitated by the opening of the EU market, as well as increased supplies of Ukrainian products to the Middle East.
