Farm Chef recipe: Ladies in Beef Blazing Burgers

These burgers are delicious and simple-to-make, says Ladies in Beef’s Minette Batters. Use Red Tractor beef to ensure that you know the origin of your beef, and that it has met the strict standards of food safety, environmental protection and animal welfare.

Serves 4

Preparation time: 10 minutes plus chilling time

Cooking time: 8-12 minutes

Ingredients

  • 450g (1lb) lean Red Tractor minced beef
  • 1 small red onion, finely grated
  • 1cm (½in) piece fresh root ginger, peeled and finely chopped
  • 1 or 2 red or green chillies, deseeded (if preferred) and finely chopped
  • 1-2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sunflower oil
  • Finely shredded chilli strips, to garnish

TIP If preferred, replace the ginger with 1-2 tbsp curry powder and the Worcestershire sauce with mango chutney.

Method

  1. Place the beef in a large bowl and add the onion, ginger, chilli, Worcestershire sauce and salt. Mix together thoroughly.
  2. With damp hands, shape the mixture into 4 evenly sized burgers. Cover and refrigerate for 20 minutes.
  3. Brush the burgers with a little oil and cook under a preheated moderate grill or on a prepared barbecue for 4-6 minutes on each side, or until cooked through and any meat juices run clear.
  4. Serve the burgers in rolls garnished with salad leaves, finely shredded chilli strips and a spoonful of your favourite prepared relishes and potato wedges.
  5. To prevent the burgers breaking up during cooking on the barbecue, place on a sheet of aluminium foil over the barbecue grill.
