Outstanding in the field

Crop circles ... ahh, wonderous crop circles!

Sadly, the golden age of crop circles has past - puzzled locals, conspiracy theorists, vomiting dogs, even 6 o' clock news coverage.

I blame the internet for spoiling our innocence. I personally was a much happier man believing super advanced aliens had travelled lightyears across the vastness of space to make pretty patterns in a field before flying off in search of other gormless cereal growing species.

However, either our benign arable grafitti artist aliens have returned with greater creativity or some bounder's had a couple of shandies and sort to revisit old times ... because ... the crop circles are back - and with something for the ladies this time.

Biofuel's getting corny

Apparently, the grain it takes to fill a 25-gallon fuel tank with ethanol just once will feed one person for a whole year.

With that in mind, the NY Times is reporting concerns over whether there will be enough corn from the US harvest in 2007 to support the demand for both fuel and food, after a new study found that ethanol plants could use as much as half of America’s corn crop next year

Mexicans protest over biofuel's impact on tortilla prices

The Mexicans are up in arms about the future of their beloved tortilla.

The rising demand for biofuels and its impact on corn prices (up to 400%), has led to protest from the flat bread-loving populus.
