Holding Out For a Hero

200px-Stgeorge-dragon%202.jpg

Farmers Weekly is holding out for a hero. We have joined forces with the NFU to seek a farming champion. As part of the 2007 Farmers Weekly Awards, we are looking for someone worthy of the title NFU Farming Champion.

The winner will be a man or woman who has done the most to promote British food and farming. He or she need not be, in the words of the Bonnie Tyler song, "A street-wise Hercules." But we are looking for someone with the passion, commitment and dedication to make a big difference about the way people think about food and farming topics.

Last year's winner was Hertfordshire farmer Ian Pigott who inspired Open Farm Sunday. So if you think you can fill his shoes, or you know someone who can, please nominate him or her for the 2007 NFU Farming Champion Award.

Nominations so far include Alexia Robinson, for directing British Food Fortnight, and Simon Hart, chief executive of the Countryside Alliance, for championing country sports and rural issues.

To nominate your 2007 NFU Farming Champion, visit our awards website. Or you can contact awards co-ordinator Jacqui Winn on 020 8652 4002 or email Jacqui.winn@rbi.co.uk.

It's a great way of showcasing the best of British rural leadership in this the Year of Food and Farming.
