It was my birthday on Monday. Special thanks to all the imaginary readers who sent in imaginary messages and cards...
My plans all went wrong because we didn't get finished in the potato packhouse until 7.00pm. I had intended to travel down to Warwickshire to stay with friends and then visit the Royal Show on Tuesday. I ended up aborting this plan on Monday afternoon. By the way, it's a shame that they decided to cancel the show just because I couldn't make it.
I was quite relieved as in turned out - we are still fitting new equipment and it is proving a difficult installation. I spent a fair bit of Tuesday with electricians and refrigeration engineers.
Anyway, back to my birthday (which was on Monday 2nd July, you remember?) You can imagine how I felt when I got home on Monday night to find I hadn't got any wine or beer in the house. I have had a few weeks "off the sauce" while there is so much going on and I find it much easier if there is no temptation in my way. Actually I have felt 100% worse since I stopped drinking - I feel dizzy and I look haggard around the eyes the whole time. If you are a longtime imaginary reader, you have probably noticed how much duller and less whimsical these entries have become. That's only partly down to the weather.
So I decided to break the rule, being as it was my birthday (Have I mentioned that already?) and went to Tesco to buy an expensive bottle of wine. LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL! It was a perfect end to the day to find that Tesco had been blown up by lightning - clearly the Almighty is a Sainsburys shopper.
So I had no option but to go to Asda which is hardly birthday, birthday, birthday is it. The fanciest bottle of wine that they had was £6 and they didn't have a broadsheet newspaper. Listen Asda, there's more to life than bargains you know. What about special occasions? (Incidentally, I do think that Asda's rebranded Extra Special range is a hit).
Will have to organise myself better for my 35th birthday next year (this is also going to be on 2nd July, get that it your diary).
BTW I was too tired to even open the wine.

Belated happy birthday Matthew. If it's any consolation, I think an unopened bottle of Asda wine was preferable to wading through the mud and getting your car stuck at the Royal!
Happy birthday
