Daffodils

Things are finally getting a bit drier and we have finally made a start on the daffodil harvest today. We are two weeks behind schedule already.

The ground is very wet but fortunately we are on a very fine silt field this year. The first day of a new job is usually pretty chaotic, today we have needed visits from our electrician, the Case mechanic, the Grimme dealer and the Herbert engineer. Everything is running smoothly now and we hope to make decent progress tomorrow.

Was hoping to be able to write an amusing entry today but I can't do it. I worked all day yesterday and I feel shattered today, I just looked in the mirror and my face looks like a smacked bottom.

I always find this time of year high-pressured. If you compare the farming year here to swimming the Atlantic, actually let's say the Pacific, it's like swimming the Pacific with your boots and a dressing gown on. If you make that comparison, then July is the point when you are farthest from either shore.
