Harry Potter and the Puddles of Doom

Me and my big, fat...

mouth. Why did I have to write in a blog entry that I live in the flatest county in the UK. We were only treated to a two inch downpour on Friday afternoon. On top of the previous deluge this has shown up every undulation and low spot in every field.

We had delphiniums and potatoes underwater. We have been busy using diggers, ploughs and (even) spades to dig trenches to get the water away from the crops and into the dykes. Neither of these two crops can stand being underwater for more than 24 hours without lasting damage. Suffice to say, we were the largest grower of delphiniums in Great Britain on Thursday but we probably won't be on Monday.

This is rather a difficult season for us and putting us all under a lot of strain. The temperatures have been low and we have already burnt five thousand pounds worth of gas more than we were expecting to drying the daffodil bulbs. We still have three days of daffodil harvesting to go but have reached a stopping point because we need to dry the ones that we have already harvested.

I escaped the troubles last night and spent yesterday evening and night lost in the world of Harry Potter. I finished the book at 1.00am and enjoyed it much, much more than I really ought to have done. I was gripped from the outset. I find it more difficult to relax and read in the summer and have not been able to read a book this quickly since my Kurt Vonnegut faze at the start of the year. Until I bought this Harry potter book, I had been struggling through Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K Jerome. This is a really funny book but i just can't seem to get stuck into it. I had the same problem with Catch 22, it never "caught" me. I will have to try them again in the winter when I've got the "library" decorated in the new house.

Anyway, her I am in the office again on a Sunday morning to prepare a budget for a new venture that we are hoping to embark on in 2008. More of this to come. Have some people coming to view the house at 10.00am so will soon have to go home to make the place smell nice by brewing coffee and baking fresh bread. Looking at the clock, this might be a bit ambitious, it might just be a a quick blast with the toilet duck.

I spent all of Saturday ploughing through the latest, and last, Potter.

Big improvement on books five and six but I still think four is the best.

At least the rest of your reading list makes you sound quite erudite.

I have a passion for Heat and rubbishy crime novels. Perhaps I shouldn't speak publicly about such things...
