Something smells fishy

A quick entry for you, it is...

nearly 7.30pm and I am keen to lock the gates and go and cook some dinner.

You know when you buy a new piece of equipment how it takes a while to learn how all the controls work. I was driving the new John Deere yesterday and noticed a symbol on the heater controls in the shape of a cactus. I wasn't sure what it was for or if I would do any damage by using it but obviously I pressed it anyway. Since then we have mysteriously had marvellous weather. Obviously all those poor souls elsewhere in the country who are underwater haven't learnt how to work this button yet.

Apologies any imaginary readers who have actually had all their personal effects destroyed by the floods. You will probably fail to see the funny side of that observation, presumably you are reading this on an underwater laptop.

It has been great to see some sunshine at last. Hoorah, we have started cropping delphiniums again today, the daffodil bulb harvest has resumed again and we managed to get blight sprays on half of the potatoes. We should finish the field of daffodil bulbs tomorrow if we can keep todays progress.

We sent away some potatoes leaf samples to be tested for nutrient deficiency on Monday. the results came back today and they were very low in nitrogen. We are going to try applying a foliar application with the next blight spray to keep these crops growing as long as we can. It makes my heart sink when I look at how compacted the soil has become from all the rain. Goodness knows what problems we are going to have harvesting the potatoes this year.

Right. House viewings. I have shown about seven people around the house. It was featured as the property of the week in our local paper which created quite a bit of interest. I cooked a large paella for friends on Sunday night. It didn't occur to me that the house would reek of fish for the viewings next day. I left all the windows open but it was still pretty overwhelming. Despite this two people want to come back for a second viewing. Clearly the fishy smell has done the trick. You don't get this sort of advice on the TV makeover shows do you?
