Trade for dairy cows continues to be strong with the mid month sale at Beeston Castle Auction, proving no exception to the rule.
The sale received a good entry of 128 head with several animals busting the £1100 mark.
Leading trade was a Holstein heifer from Messrs J C & D Hunter, Hertfordshire. Ashlyns Iron Marina is a daughter of Boss Iron, which calved at the end of February and was giving just short of 30kg and was snapped up for £1240 by Norman Tomkinson, Gnosall.
The next heifer to take the stage was another tremendously milky heifer from Messrs J G & J E Kinsey, Chester. Gosvenor Principal Cyllene is a daughter of Crichel Principal and calved at the end of February, she was giving 28kg daily and purchased by Messrs E G Stokes & Partners, Newport.
Jim Barber consigned a real quality heifer, Parkley Jordan Raquel, a Roylane Jordan daughter that calved at the end of February giving 32kg per day. J W Gleave secured her at £1140 for his Middlewich based herd.
Alan Outram had his usual high quality consignment forward with the top realising at £1120. Messrs R J & D J Clement purchased her for their Norton based herd.
In-calf heifers sold to £1000 three times, with the first coming from G P Willis who consigned a massive heifer, in-calf to the Shorthorn and purchased by a local buyer. The next heifer in the ring to realise the same amount was Ashlyns Jackson Dianthus from Messrs Hunter and again secured by a local buyer. The same consigner again secured the same price for Ashlyns Tatum Jane a daughter of Cogent Tatum.
Mr D G Stephenson had a good group of heifers on offer, with the best selling to £900.
A super group of calves were forward from Messrs H Woodward & Son and topping the trade were Picston Shottle daughters which sold to £310.
