Judging continued apace today at the Royal Show, with dairy cattle joining the fray. With cattle rings decimated by yesterday's torrential downpours, most beef and dairy judging was moved to the tarmac at the rear of the cattle sheds.
This was largely a result of the Show's decision to reseed the cattle rings in April of this year.
Among the sheep lines there was nothing short of complete amazement as stewards informed exhibitors that the show had run out of prize cards and so none were available to be presented.
Surely someone in the livestock office at RASE can count?
In the Bluefaced Leicester ring it was first Royal victory for novice exhibitor Alan Fotheringham, interbreed beef judge at last week's Royal Highland Show. His leader here was a shearling ram.
The Charollais, meanwhile, were led by Melton Mowbray-based Charles Sercombe, again with a shearling ram.
The Belgian Blue cattle classes were won by Michelle Wilde with her homebred bull Ridge Dean Artaban.
