Welsh vet Esmor Evans lifted this year's beef interbreed title with his homebred Charolais heifer Maerdy Beauty.

By homebred sire Maerdy Padraic and out of Maerdy Omlette, this stylish, showy heifer was described by interbreed judge Neil Massie as exceptionally balanced and not too heavily muscled. "She had plenty of feminine charm to go with her fleshing."

Standing reserve to the Charolais was the Welsh Black leader, Michael Wyn Jones homebred heifer Deiniolen Non 12. This one is by Neuadd Hebog 136 and out of Deiniolen Non 2.

Mr Jones keeps just 10 purebred cows at home alongside his building business. Non 12 was led out by his son Sean, a rural surveyor with Jones and Peckover at Bangor.
