Rouge takes Royal show interbreed sheep title

The sheep championship at this week's Royal Show went the way of the Rouge De L’Ouest once again, with Percy Tait’s shearling ewe clinching top honours ahead of the Texel leader, a shearling ram from David Chave.

The Rouge, led out by Kate Gunn, is by a homebred tup and out of a homebred ewe, the dam is out of a ewe Mr Tait bought from leading Rouge breeder David Jane.

Judge Edward Darke said the Rouge just caught his eye from the moment he walked in the ring. “She’s feminine, showy and just oozes ring presence,” he added. The Texel, meanwhile, is by Lionshall King of Clubs and out of a homebred ewe by Douganhill Lone Star.
