Shropshire auctioneers Halls are expecting nationwide interest in a dispersal sale of a noted dairy herd on Friday.
The Home family of Haughton Farm, Haughton, near Shrewsbury has decided to sell the Haughtonhome Herd after purchasing another business.
Going under the hammer at the sale on Friday, October 19 at 11am will be 127 cows and heifers in milk, 38 in-calf heifers and one Holstein bull.
"This is the most noted sale of production animals from a Shropshire farm this autumn and one not to be missed," said Halls director and dairy cattle expert David Giles.
"The Home family moved to Haughton Farm in 1975 and brought with them the nucleus of the herd from Berwick Grove, where milk production had been the order of the day since 1923.
"Since the decision to register the herd was taken in 1983 great care has been taken to breed for type, concentrating on udders, legs and feet. Recently, in view of the fact that milk has been sold to a cheesemaker, yield has played second fiddle to quality, hence the very good fat and protein figures."
The herd's current year average is 7,985 kilograms, 4.63 per cent butterfat, 3.22 per cent protein and 176 cell count.
Cow sires include Kendall, James, Boss Iron, Jackson, S Man, Rudolph, Manat, Gilbert, Dante and Convincer. Approval features well in the herd, as does a son of Storm.
Recent services have been on The World Sires Mating Programme to Empire, Decker, Dandy, Best, Zenith, Mr Sam, Kendall and Outside. Recent natural service has been to the bull included in the sale, Hawksmoor Renett, son of Shottle and High Society Dunkirk, son of Durham.
