Robert Phillip, Hellifield, secured his third Craven Dairy Auction championship success with a home-bred newly-calven pedigree Holstein Friesian heifer giving 30kg by Comestar Stormatic.

Judged champion by Garstang dairy farmer Jimmy Hull, the victor established a new mart record price when bought by Andrew Bradley, Ryedale, to further boost his 230-head commercial herd.

Another regular Skipton dairy purchaser, G Parker, Emley, Huddersfield, paid £2020 he paid for a first prize newly-calven cow from Malcolm and Robert Swires, Harrogate.

Jerseys also sold well when a December-due heifer from Richard Saxby, Coniston Cold, sold his best in-calf heifer for £1130 to Aubrey Greenhalgh, Elswick, Preston.

Newly-calven heifers averaged £1,659; fresh calvers averaging £1,559.
