Charolais bulls hit 10,000gns in Carlisle

No strangers to the limelight, the Campbell family of Colin and his two sons Ian and John topped Charolais trade at Carlisle on Saturday with Thrunton Bravado. By the successful Burradon Talisman and out of Thrunton Treat.

This October born, who previously stood reserve senior champion, with a self replacing index of +35 sold for 10,000gns to J M Robinson, Tenbury Wells, Worcester.

Taking a bid of 9500gns was Esmor Evans' Maerdy Bermuda. By Maerdy Padirac out of a homebred dam, he sold to Greystoke Castle Farms, Penrith.

At 8500gns T Bell and Son sold Hallbankgate Brazil, an Alwent Vougeot son out of Hallbankgate Vera - full sister to a bull sold for £10,000. He sold to J and W Wilson, Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire.

Living up to his name having taken the junior male title, Moelfre Champion from K J Thomas sold for 8500gns to J S Abel and Co, Llanidloes, Powys.

Kelso-based John Jeffrey paid 8000gns for Gelston Castle Farms' Kelton Bonaparte. By Ugie Upperhand he is out of a homebred dam.

For the same money, Bill Bruce sold Balmyle Champagne to J A Gracie, Canonbie, Dumfriesshire. By Maerdy Othello, Champagne has a self replacing index of +40.

Female trade led with a call of 2700gns from R and R Weir, Cumnock, Ayrshire to take home T Bell and Son's Hallbankgate Uptown with a milk value of +2.

Averages: 40 senior bulls £3382.31; 34 intermediate bulls £3943.68; 41 junior bulls £3809.45; 2 cows £2467.50; 9 served and maiden heifers £1522.50.
