Lancashire Limousin cattle breeder Paul Fletcher secured the Limousin championship honours at Skipton yesterday with his home-bred March, 2006, bull Siddall Barney, by the Neuphar son Sarkley Viking, out of Siddall Tanya, who is herself a product of Paul’s main stock bull Wintles Oak.
The title-winner went on to sell for the day’s top price of 2900gns to D and S Hollings, Hebden Bridge.
The reserve championship went to a home-bred July 2006, breeding bull from the Brontemoor herd of Stephen Priestley, Bradford, who has regularly been among the Limousin trophies at Skipton in recent years.
Brontemoor Bandaid is by the Jersey son Sultan, who produced offspring to 9000gns when successfully used as a sire by the Priestleys for four years, until being sold to UK Sires in Devon this February. The dam is Brontemoor Mandy.
The runner-up sold for 2700gns to G H West and Son, Driffield, who also purchased the Priestleys’ first prize heifer for 1000gns.
Breeding bulls averaged £2174, with cows and calves averaging £1163.
