Texel tips Balmoral Show interbreed balance

The Texel champion, a ewe lamb from Martin Millar's 70-ewe flock, by Mellorvale Masterpiece, a 3500gns purchase from Lanark two years ago, and out of a dam by Haltcliffe Caeser has just clinched the interbreed sheep championship at Balmoral Show, Belfast.

But in a twist to the usual format of judging it was the reserve Charollais champion which stood reserve interbreed behind the ewe lamb. This stylish shearling ewe from Jonathan Aiken's flock is by Fendati Allgold, a 4500gns purchase from Lanark in 1998, and out of a homebred ewe by Fourdice Danny Boy.

 

TS Sheep Reserve001.JPGEarlier in the day the shearling ewe had teamed up with Diane Christie's tup which stood breed champion to clinch the interbreed pairs title.
