Blackie ewe hoggs make record price

United Auctions, Stirling, saw breed record prices paid for a pen of Blackface ewe hoggs from Ian Hunter, Dalchirla, Muthill, selling for £425 a head.

 

The pen of 30 sold to John McIrvine surpassing Dalchirla's previous record of £405 a head paid last year. Overall Mr Hunter sold 150 Blackface ewe hoggs to an average £163.80.

 

Dry Scotch Mule ewe hoggs were also in demand with a new centre record of £88 a head made for a pen of 24 from David Henderson, Banton, purchased by Messrs Hunter, Luckenburn.

 

The strong sale continued with Mules hoggs with lambs at foot selling to £136 for a pen of 16 from Messrs Barr, Easter Bucklyvie.

 

With more than 3330 breeding sheep passing through the ring, Scotch Mule ewes averaged £73.95 (+£11.65), while Scotch Mule ewe hoggs with lambs making £114.43 (+£8.43). The only fall for the day was Blackface ewe hoggs, which fell by £3.72, cashing in at £84.21.
