Breed enthusiasts pack sale ring

Breed enthusiasts from as far a field as Norfolk and Cornwall packed the sale ring for the dispersal of Peter Burton's herd of pure Guernsey's and Guernsey crosses at Newent, Gloucestershire.

 

Topping trade at 1500gns was the 5th calver Hampton Lily 485th, a daughter of Shalford Yette. She joins the herd of R J Smith Dereham, Norfolk.

 

Unregistered Monica, a February calved forth calver served in May by the Herford stock bull and giving 30,2kgs daily, sold for 1450gns to Dallyns Dairy, Barnstable.

 

Another non pedigree February calver, Becca, sold for 1350gns to E A Westcott and Sons, Somerset. The 2nd calver recorded 5058kgs as a heifer.

 

Hortense, a Friesian cross Guernsey second calver, due with her third to the Hereford, sold to J Stagg and Sons, Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire for 1300gns.

 

In-calf heifers sold to 1100gns for the Shorthorn cross Lily, a daughter of the top priced cow. Yearling cross heifers sold to 500gns.
