Steers averaging £632 at Bishops Castle

A good quality entry of 180 cattle went under the hammer at Bishops Castle Auction last week when steers averaged £632 a head and 153p/kg, with highs of £950 for a 660kg Charolais steer from W K Watkin, Kerry and 188p/kg for three 250kg steers from G E Balmer and Son, Snailbeach.

Heifers averaged £576 a head and 143.5p/kg to a maximum of £810 for a Charolais again from Mr Watkin and 167.9p/kg for a 405 kg Limousin from A Bloor and Sons, Bishops Castle.

Another good entry of eight cows and calves averaged £1100, with the top price of £1300 going to S H Hillage, Marshbrook (Halls).
