Chris and Fiona Jerman of Glangwden Limousins have received an award for the most progressive Welsh herd based on performance.

Presented by HCC Meat Promotion Wales, this will become an annual award for a Signet performance recording herd which has shown most improvement in growth and muscle figures over the previous year. Commenting, Dewi Hughes, Project Officer with HCC said: "This award comes on the back of the Welsh Beef Quality Initiative (BQI) Scheme which has funded 350 mainly commercial herds with grants of up to £2,500 to buy in stock bulls with good performance figures."

Glangwden Barbara.JPG Demonstrating that high index animals can also be successful in the ring, the Jermans' Glangwden Barbara was awarded best Limousin female at the 2008 Royal Welsh Show. With a Beef Value of LM+33, this places her easily within the Top 10% of breed.

Having now come to an end of one chapter, the BQI Scheme will continue in a new format with funding available towards performance recording for new and existing entrants.
