The judging of the interbreed pairs championship earlier today left both ringside observers and exhbitors dumfounded and enraged after Peter Dixon Smith contradicted his own earlier judgement in awarding the reserve award to the Kerry Hill duo which had earlier only stood reserve in the Crossing sire section.
Having placed the Charollais pair from David Roberts and Messrs Daffurn and Curtis as champions, Mr Dixon Smith was left with three other sections champions and the reserve terminal sire champions the Hampshire Down pair to pick his reserve from.
But he chose to ignore all showring etiquette and logic by then placing the Kerry Hill pairing reserve.
Rouge exhibitor David Jane was understandably left fuming by the decision and I'm sure this won't be end of the story!!

Sounds like he needs a stretch judging up in Orkney for that J. Then he'll never forget the golden rule - but that was beaten today already......

Not sure about that, I'd say the Faroe Islands was more appropriate. What annoyed me even more was that the stewards let him do it. It was me who had to point out the error of his ways to them!! Ah well of to Great Yorkshire this afternoon, so we'll see what that brings.

Good point regards the stewards - I was going to bring that up but glad you did - especially after you had to highlight it to them too!
I'll be keeping an eye out for the Great Yorkshire results as the day goes on.
Hopefully if there's only one 'BTV Zone' next year & we'll make it down - heard so much about it so slightly curious to say the least.

The attitude of most stewards here was summed up by one who when asked what would be done to drive the show forward next year replied. "That's not down to me only the CHIEF ???????? steward"
Suffice to say this wasn't a chief livestock steward, but it was still an incredible comment to make, surely all stewards have a vested interest in making the show better?!
Like you I've never been to Yorkshire Show yet, so will be interested to see what its like. While not an alternative to the Royal it is supposed to be a cracking show.
As always we'll be putting results and pictures on here as judging gets underway tomorrow and Wednesday. Hopefully there'll be a good crowd there too.

You heard the comment about the stewards here -they wear bowler hats to stop the good ideas penetrating in to their brains!!!
Says it all really!!
I'd say roll on the Yorkshire for some normality but I think the commercial showcattle society will ruin that request!

oh, that old chestnut, the madeupword society. Can we vaccinate against them when we get our BTV vaccine too please?
As I said to our most excellent stewards at the RHS - I have one complaint guys, we've got nothing to complain about! (in realistic tems anyway)
Enjoy Nearly-Scotland!

Sorry had to remove the section to protect the identity of the steward - but the sentiment is still the same no matter what section they are involved in!
