Tecwyn takes Royal Welsh commercial title

| 15 Comments | No TrackBacks

Tecwyn Jones has just added the Royal Welsh commercial title to the reserve interbreed championship he won yesterday.

Taking top honours for Mr Jones was his British Blue cross heifer Black Beauty. Bred by Trefor Jones, Black Beauty weighed in at 477kg on the day and was what judge David Cormack described as the perfect commercial show beast.

TS Beef Champ.JPGThis was Mr Jones' first commercial title at Builth and he held of a stif challenge from last year's winner Tudur Edwards with his baby beef champion, Duffy, a Limousin cross heifer.

Baby Limmie

Is this the same heifer that won beef Expo as a calf last year at skipton? - she's held on then!!! Love the baby beef heifer - very sweet - she'll do some damage on the winter circuit!

nah look at the red-un - what a presence in that photo - all we have to go on remember.
Black one is a bit wee for me - unless shes just on 12 months however.
Just shows the value of a good photo.

She's not the same heifer as skipton last year. This is one of the same name from the same home, but she's not yet 12 months old and is full of flesh. The red has style and will probably be the better beast at christmas, she's headed for Builth and then Smithfield hopefully, so watch out everybody!

thanks J - good to have a man in the know like you on the ground.

Now I look at her again you see the calfie look in her - very handy sometimes.

I think the Welsh are starting to maybe turn the tide on us bravehearts but hopefully we'll try our best to keep matching them!

There's also a grand looking Charolais cross heifer which could do some damage at Christmas. She's in the mould of Smithfield champions of old - Lip Gloss and Dancing Queen spring to mind.

She's wide, deep and has that certain something that catches the eye, provided she doesn't go front heavy by December she'll be one to watch too. She was reserve heavy heifer to Black Beauty today.

That'll be Robin Roberts one is it?
If it is, I stood down the line to her in the same class at the Highland and I agree wholeheartedly with your comments on her.
Legs & locomotion might let her down as she puts on the weight, but I'm just envious!

jonathan long

It is indeed, she is one smart beast. You may be right on the legs, but as a body of beef she'll take some beating and I suspect the man in charge of her will be able to keep her right.

It's been a couple of years since a Charolais did anything major at a winter fair, but this heifer could be just the one to change all that. I understand the jealousy, I'm taken with her myself and wouldn't mind getting my hands on something similar, although I suspect my partner in crime will admonish me for such thoughts!

aye the better half does a great job of keeping my feet on the ground, however we've cooked up a good one for later in the season to keep the rest of the boys on their toes.
i'll let you know if it comes off.....

I won't even begin to ask what you've got planned - but I'm sure it'll provide some sport up your way.

In my case it's just a breed issue the very mention of a certain white breed gets met with scornful looks and chuntering - I have similar reaction to her suggestions on poor moving blue and white things, so we tend to call it evens on those!

Blue_Grey_Coo_Choir_Meister

sounds fair to me.
we don't have too much differing tastes only my heads in the clouds and my good lady has her feet well heeled in the ground. Quite rightly I think because a fool and their money can be soon parted in this job.

Chrissie

Now then........it's not always scornful looks - you know my thoughts - fertility issues, cavling ease and they take a hell of a lot of feed to get them looking right! As for the Blues - they have come a long way and you know I can be as picky as the next one when it comes to legs!!!! And as for a fatstocker - we're not the Dunlops so a Charabang cross won't work for us in the south - although if you want to go and buy a couple to have a go i won't complain!

jonathan long

Ah that's not fair a Char cross could do the job if it was the right one! As for you being picky on legs I guess so, but I'm not a blue fan full stop, much like my thouhts on their ovine equivalents!

Blue_Grey_Coo_Choir_Meister

now now you pair.
If you don't stop it I'll get a Stabilizer cross bullock for you to turn your hand to.

But I feel the general concensus is that breed is not cruical it's quality & confomation that counts.

I need to sign off but cheers for the banter - I'm in again tomorrow but need a day to myself on Friday to prepare for Nairn.

Ideas like that Derek are best kept to yourself, or is that your big plan for later in the summer!!

Afraid tomorrow will be a quiet day on here, I'm heading north tonight ready for the Suffolk sale at Edinburgh on Friday.

Absolutely brilliant post guys, been following you.
