Western Holstein club bids going strong

Splitting the venues for the Western Holstein Club's monthly fixture in Cheshire is having little effect on the trade which continues to spiral upwards. Top call at the home-venue of Beeston Castle was 2750gns with a best of 2500gns reached at Chelford.

A shortage of dairy cattle on the market continues to have an impact and with just 39 entries at Beeston Castle the trade quickly moved into top gear taking 24 lots to over 2000gns. The highest call of 2750gns, paid by an undisclosed Cheshire buyer, came for Tynyreithin Talent Lucy from Preston-based Enchanted Holsteins.

The Boss Iron daughter - Ewloegreen Iron Doris - from J Evans and Son, Deeside was one of two 2500gns bids. She was claimed by Norman Tomkinson, Gnosall, Staffordshire. Matching the bid was the day's champion Delwin Reunion Amy - an Ards Reunion daughter consigned by club chairman David Rutter, Northwich. The buyers were Shutt and Mansell, Newport, Shropshire.

Leading cow trade at 2000gns was a second calver by Modesto from Alastair Dobson, Cholmondeley, Cheshire. The heifer average of £2191 at Beeston Castle was a record for this market.

Late entries boosted the turnout at Chelford where Leesemanor Modesto Bang from Wilf Lomas, Middlewich took the championship and made the top price of 2500gns to D Hulme, Leek. He also took the day's most expensive cow - Bidlea Enforcer Faith at 2450gns. She was consigned by Ray Brown and Partners, Holmes Chapel.

Two more second calvers made 2300gns - one from Bidlea and the other from the Moorhead herd of John Dale, Sandbach (Wright Manley and Frank Marshall).
