Charolais giant takes Edenbridge title

Mammoth cattle entries of close to 600 saw Edenbridge and Oxted Show rank third in terms of cattle entries in England and organisers predicting more next year.

Leading the way in the beef rings was the Charolais winner Mortimers Urovision, a giant of a five year old cow shown by Southampton-based Mortimers Farms' stockman Charlie Maclean. Having taken the supreme title at New Forest Show, Urovision will next make an appearance at Newbury and Romsey before calving in October to the farm's stock bull Ravensworth Alder.

TS Beef Champion blog.jpgIn the commercial beef ring it was time for Leighton Buzzard-based Kevin Ludgate to continue his reign at the top. Having won the heifer section, his Limousin cross British Blue heifer Lady Lou went on to take the overall commercial title under judge Richard Wright. This 18 month old heifer will be next shown at Bucks County, Thame, Newbury and Moreton-in-the-Marsh. TS Comm Champ blog.jpg

In the dairy rings it was a repeat win from July's Kent County show for William Hickson's Jersey herd. His third lactation cow Winkland Anastacia 9, led out by Luke Rayfield, calved in January in Mr Hickson's 360-cow herd at Dover, Kent.

TS Pig Champ blog.jpg Messrs Wakeham Dawson and Harmer led the sheep entries with their Southdown shearling ram. Bred from their Ridings flock, this tup is sired by Chaileybrook 060007 and out of a homebred ewe.

That's some Charolais cow! Shame she didn't have a calf at foot - that would be some outfit!

A cracking show had by all I think - great numbers, it's really going places, good prize money as well, cattle get £25 back for exhibiting as well!

As a past exhibitor and long term sponsor I have to agree, it is a cracking show, well organised and definitely one of the best of the many I have been involved with.

It is a good one - I had a great time! It's nice to have a good atmosphere at a show - too many of them are spoilt by silly rules and useless stewards - this one ws great! And their marquee for cattle is something esle! Could do with a few more showers for the exhibitors and a larger wash bay for the cattle though!
