Cumbrian buyer pays $75,000 for a Canadian Holstein Champion

British farmers were among those bidding at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto Canada last week, which saw 50 lots selling for an average of $27,500 (£15,130).

 

Topping the trade was the four year old Red and White Regiment daughter KHW Regiment Ariel-Red ET. Ariel sold for $85,000 (£46,765) with embryo contacts and heads home with Adam Little and Peter Vail, Argyle, New York.

 

Second top price at $75,000 (£41,263) was paid by Frank Phillipson, Cannon Home Farm, Ulverston who sees the daughter of 'The White Beauty'- Blondin Lyster Beauty joining his herd back in the UK.

 

The June 2008 born Blondin Goldwyn Beauty is a Goldwyn daughter of Lyster Beauty who was 2007 All Canadian Junior two year old intermediate champion at the 2008 International Holstein Show, Madison, Wisconsin. 

 

Also heading back to the UK is L'Ormiere Jamaica Sasha, an April 2007 Jersey heifer who sold for $3700 (£2035.68) to Edward Morgan, Wales and Richard Saxby. Jerseys averaged $7000 (£3851.28) for 20 lots.

 

Also among the buyers was Bruce Jobson, Northumberland who purchased BW Centurion Peggy, an April 2008 born Jersey heifer for $5500 (£3026.01). Centurion will be housed in Quebec, Canada.
