Herd reduction draws in crowds at Gisburn

Large crowds gathered Gisburn Auction's weekly dairy sale for the herd reduction sale of 53 dairy cattle for W Pinder Jnr, Clitheroe, Lancs. A selection of new calved, in calf and maiden heifers met a keen trade with trade topping at £2040 for a newly calved heifer, selling to H Southwell and Son, Halifax.

 

Regular weekly cattle also sold well topping at £2220 for a pedigree Scotchills Patriot daughter, out of a VG dam. Shown by Susan Whitwell, Blacksnape, Lancs she sold to N W and J M Coulthurst and Son, Preston, Lancs.

 

Young heifers were also in the money with a pair consigned by Richard Lucas, Blackburn, Lancs selling for £1800 and £1680.

 

A red and white Holstein heifer calf from J Shuttleworth and Son, Skipton sold for £450 to Andrew Bethell, Chorley.

 

Averages: pedigree newly calved heifers £1700; commercial newly calves heifers £1505; heifer calves £415
