Salers hit 5800gns at Castle Douglas

Leading trade at last weeks Salers Cattle Society show and sale at Castle Douglas was Selkirk-based Farmstock Genetics whose June 2006 bull Cumbrian Victor sold for 5800gns to James Morton and Son, Melrose.

5800gns blog.jpgWillie Davidson, Moffat took the supreme championship with his May 2006 bull Poldean Vince which was sold at 5600gns, the second top bid of the day. Buyers were Messrs R and I Livesay, Lilliesleaf, Scottish Borders. Mr Davidson also sold the 30-month-old bull Poldean Vance for 3200gns to Messrs K C Heard and Son.

Another local farmer to feature at the event was Graham McClymont, Palnure, Newton Stewart, who sold his 19-month-old junior bull Cuil Angus for 5500gns to James Howatson of Risk Farm, Newton Stewart. Angus was the reserve male champion as well as the reserve overall champion.

Mr McClymont also received prices of 2200gns for a bull as well as 2500gns and 2400gns for two heifers, one in calf and the other with a calf.

Averages: 13 bulls £3360 (Wallets Marts).
