Trade tops at 3900gns at Western Holstein monthly sale

Good trade was seen at the Western Holstein monthly show and sale of fresh calved Holstein cows and heifers, with a good 119 heads forward.

 

Topping trade at 3900gns was 2nd prize junior heifer in milk, Stokehall Request Adeline consigned by Harold and Pat Crapper, Dronfield, Derbyshire.  This daughter of Stelbro Request was purchased by Peter Mercer for his Crewe-based Sandringham herd.

 

Next in the price list were local breeders, Graham and Barbara Bells with their heifer Irthingvale Zenith Roxette. She was purchased by Hywel Evans, Ostwestry for 3300gns.

 

Mr Evans also went on to purchase one of two heifers, Irthingvale Zenith Roxette for 3000gns, consigned by Messrs Barlow. The second heifer, Leamington Shottle Milkmaid, from D and E Trice, Leamington Spa, sold to Lloyd Thomas, Carmarthen. 

 

A further nine animals made between 2850gns and 2300gns including Saxelby Shottle Anna, a fresh second calver by Picston Shottle, selling for 2600gns to Dafydd Hughes, Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire.

 

Embryos were also for sale, with embryos sired by Goldwyn from the Avis family and Talent from the Raven family topping at 400gns.

20 cows £1639.05; 96 heifers £1853.36; 3 maiden heifers £1242.50; 119 head £ 1801.95
